The authorities of Targówek district decided to solve the problem with night brawls. During the Wednesday session of the district council, a legislative initiative was issued with a request that the Warsaw council in Targówek introduce a ban on the sale of alcohol at night.
Prohibition at Targówek would apply to all stores along with gas stations . The initiative was issued by the mayor Sławomir Antonik, who explained that the ban on the sale of alcohol would be valid from 23 to 6 in the morning, seven days a week.
The mayor of the Civic Platform was against the initiative of the mayor, while the councilor of Law and Justice and the Housing Cooperative caused the idea. They immediately voted for him and addressed him to the Warsaw Council.
Mayor Sławomir Antoniak explains that the ban on the sale of alcohol from hours 23:00 to 06:00 is due to residents who are exposed to various types of incidents related to their own safety or property, or with various types of crimes. The mayor quoted:
We have more than 200 months of police and city guard intervention in this area, of course, in the summer of these interventions increases, so I think that this is a remarkable phenomenon. And the effects of these events are different. The very fear of your safety and your loved ones causes that life is worse .
He adds that such a ban depends on the willingness of the governing bodies, and that is the City of Warsaw Capital Council
It is possible to tighten the rules thanks to the amendment of the Act on Upbringing in Sobriety in January. The new regulations explain, among others that the distance of sales points from schools or churches can not be less than 50 meters.
