Metropolitan councilors on Thursday decided that alcohol consumption on the beach on the Prague side would be legal.
During the Thursday session, the councilors decided to exclude the beach area under the Poniatowski bridge from the ban. 35 councilors voted in favor of the resolution, 17 were against and one person abstained. The resolution comes into force after 14 days from its publication in the Official Journal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship.
During the debate, Piotr Mazurek (PO) pointed out that the resolution “does not introduce a new quality, but strengthens the current status quo”.
At the end of January this year, President Andrzej Duda signed an amendment to the law, which introduces, among others, the possibility of local self-governments to restrict night-time alcohol sales in stores and specifies the ban on drinking alcohol in public places, excluding “places for this purpose”. In connection with this, the councilors in March unanimously decided that the Vistula boulevards would be an area excluded from the ban on alcohol consumption.
